Bullies

Her Comment

Bullies
Our school edgewood middle school ha a lot of problems and a main one is bullying , & no i have never been bullied & i hate bully to i think it is sad and very wrong .

My Comment

Hi Savannah,
I am a student at the University of South Alabama in Dr. Strange’s EDM310 class. I am majoring in Elementary Education. I just wanted to say that I too, hate bullies. It is very sad when you hear about students getting bullied and I believe more people should stand up to these individuals. If you see someone getting made fun of, or being bullied, you should notify a teacher or your Principal and tell them what is going on. If you ever want to visit my blog and leave me a comment, you are more than welcome too anytime! I really enjoyed reading your blog and all that you had to say in it.

"What I've Learned This Year" by Mr. McClung
multiple different colored crayons stacked on top of each other

What a fantastic job Mr. McClung did on his essay! I loved reading it a lot. Mr. McClung spoke about many things he learned as a 1st year teacher including being flexible. Mr. McClung speaks that communication is a key in the classroom when it comes time to interact with students. Mr. McClung mentions technology, and that we, as teachers should not be afraid to use technology in the classroom. Technology brings in a wealth of information. Mr. McClung mentions that being a good teacher is one who can actively listen to their students. If teachers interacted with their students and listened to what they had to say, more respect will be given in return. Mr. McClung also speaks about responsibility, that we as teachers, it is our responsibility to make sure that our students are learning what is required, but to as well understand that some students will make mistakes along the way. We are all humans, it is expected. If we as teachers do not let students make mistakes, we are not doing our job correctly. As well, if students are never allowed to make mistakes, they will never truly "learn" the material being taught to them. Making mistakes is how we learn to "better" ourselves. I enjoyed what Mr. McClung had to say.

Blog Post #8

1.) Richard Miller: This Is How We Dream Parts 1 and 2

Mr. Miller is very knowledgeable in his research about writing with multimedia. I found this video to be very informative. Google has made researching much easier and Mr. Miller goes into depths the many different ways we can do this. I loved when Mr. Miller addressed "the goal is not the technology itself, but that the technology makes possible." Mr. Miller stresses that teaching globally is very positive and is instant. I would absolutely love to do this in my classroom as I love to learn about anything new, and am willing to try anything new knowing it might make a positive reflection on my students and enable them to learn something new and exciting as well.

2.) The Chipper Series

This video is absolutely adorable. I loved watching it very much. In the beginning of the semester, Dr. Strange mentioned a previous student had said "teach me so that I do not have to learn." She went on to make a school titled "Timeline Pilot School" where her students chose how long they wanted to be in certain classes for. Students reported their work without their teacher checking up on them. It was based on trust alone. Unfortunately, the Timeline Pilot School was shut down due to lack of knowledge. Procrastination is an evil thing among us students. We as teachers need to do work on time, and be models for our future students. One of the things of being a professional is to know deadlines and stick to them and serve as models around us.

EDM310 for Dummies

Another adorable video. I loved the part where they smashed the keyboards and this evil-type background music began playing. A few people have told me that EDM310 is a very "time consuming, wasted class." I disagree with them. Yes, EDM310 is time consuming, but at the end of the day you actually walk out knowing more than when you walked in. I love this class! I think a great video to make would be about how waiting till the last minute to do your work for EDM310 can make you stressed out (procrastination)rather than working day-by-day on projects and such can make EDM310 a stress-free class. I believe the primary message is that you work hard, time manage yourself, not wait till the last minute to get things done, and you will do great in EDM310.

3.) Learn to Change, Change to Learn

"Education is ranked #55," put lowest to the bottom of the list next to coal mining. That is sad and just ridiculous. Technology seems to be more the center of attention to students outside of school than what is being taught inside of the classrooms. Putting technology in the classrooms is a great advantage in that it will enable the students to better focus on the material and be more engaged in their learning.

4.) The Secret Powers of Time by Phillip Zambardo

I loved this video, it kept me alert. The animator mentions time by the drawing of pictures. What a shocking thing when it was mentioned that every 9 seconds in the United States a student drops out of High School. Everything is changing so fast from family time, to social time, to education and even how we take care of ourselves. Technology is a wonderful thing, but as well can ruin someone's educational life as the video showed. This video was an eye-opener to me.

Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us by David Pink

Money seems to be discussed as a big motivational maker. Without money, one would not be able to live successful lives as they could not afford the things to keep them going in life. Three things are mentioned as personal satisfaction. 1.) Autonomy, 2.) Mastery, and 3.) Purpose. Autonomy is something that is used to be self-directed. Mastery is the urge to succeed, and Purpose is related to reason of why one did something.

Project #10 1st Progress Report of PLN

I am using Symbaloo for my PLN. My tiles so far are going really great and I am just beginning to learn more about Symbaloo. I have shown so many people what Symbaloo is and everyone seems to love it and finds it very useful. I will continue to add tiles to my project and I can't wait until everything is finished and set.

Randy Pausch’s Last Lecture

This video is just absolutely amazing in every way. Dr. Pausch speaks about his illness in the beginning and does push ups in front of everyone to prove he still has it inside of him. I never would have guessed he was sick just by viewing this video, he does not look sick at all. Dr. Pausch speaks about his dreams, and goals in life. He lectures on that we all have "dreams" and "goals" in our life, and that it is up to every one of us to achieve such things in life. It's amazing how Dr. Pausch mentions to never give up on people. My parents never gave up on me on the tough days I had back in High School and some in College, when I just wanted to "quit" more so less to speak. I think we as future teachers should never give up on our students, we will all have bad days but never should we quit. Dr. Pausch believed in so much creativity among students. He really was an amazing individual. This video really did bring tears to my eyes because it was not only inspirational, but as well it was heartbreaking that such an amazing person was here on earth for such a short amount of time. I really wish more Professors were like Dr. Pausch. I plan to read his book and I keep "The Last Lecture" in my favorites now.

"Pictures and Projects"

My first experience with volunteer travel was nothing short of incredible. It is so fulfilling to be able to participate in such a wide variety of projects that contribute to healthy, happy communities as well as sustainable living. I was able to plant, grow, build, harvest, teach, sew, lift, dig, paint, research, cook, clean, connect and play. Doing the work alongside others is a big reward. I wish I was able to capture more of the projects and processes on film. However, being there in the moment is enough to remember. Work hard, play hard and keep your eyes wide open the whole time!

My reply:

Hello Mrs. Bayda,
I am a student at the University of South Alabama majoring in Elementary Education. Upon reading your blog, I must say that what you do is very rewarding. You get to travel to many different countries, learning about the many different cultures, food, languages they speak, and the different “learning styles” and schools in each country. I would absolutely love to be able to travel to different countries and teach. The interaction of children in different cultures and how they learn, and what they do, and just the different teaching styles and methods is enough to put a smile on anyone’s face at the end of the day. It takes a special person to be able to do what you do, to travel to different countries and teach because all the children are different in how they learn in each country. Not everyone can do that. I really enjoyed reading your blog, and I look forward to reading more of what you write in the future.

"2010 In Review"

The stats helper monkeys at WordPress.com mulled over how this blog did in 2010, and here’s a high level summary of its overall blog health: A Boeing 747-400 passenger jet can hold 416 passengers. This blog was viewed about 5,000 times in 2010. That’s about 12 full 747s. In 2010, there were 48 new posts, not bad for the first year! There were 345 pictures uploaded, taking up a total of 366mb. That’s about 7 pictures per week. The busiest day of the year was May 29th with 154 views. The most popular post that day was untitled. Where did they come from? The top referring sites in 2010 were johnstrange.com, twitter.com, ecmp355.ning.com, google.ca, and facebook.com.
Some visitors came searching, mostly for morgan bayda, jeopardy labs, self portraits grade 2, geometric portraits, and “morgan bayda”.
